In 1989, at the age of 26, I was working as the service manager at a car dealership when the opportunity arose to purchase a small dump-trucking business from the late Fred Orr. Fred was a kind and generous mentor who took me under his wing and taught me the fundamentals of the dump-truck delivery trade. Because I still worked Saturdays at the dealership, I spent my Mondays off riding alongside him, immersing myself in a steep but invaluable learning curve.

I completed the purchase at the end of the summer of 1989. Sadly, Fred passed away in early 1990. I remain deeply grateful to him for the opportunity that permanently altered the course of my life in ways I could not have imagined at the time.

In the years since, I have grown the original Fred’s Trucking into a full-service excavation company proudly serving Nanaimo, BC, and the surrounding area. I consider myself fortunate to do work I genuinely enjoy, and I take pride in conducting business with the same values Fred modeled: treating every client with kindness, respect, and professionalism.
